NAUI Rescue Diver

The Rescue Diver Course is an important step in expanding a Diver’s knowledge and ability beyond a recreational level. Your ability to help a Diver in distress will not only benefit your buddy, should he/she need assistance, but will significantly increase your confidence and know-how in preventing and solving problems for yourself beyond that which you gained from the Advanced course. The Rescue Diver Course helps to create capable, confident divers, No matter your current abilities; you will find your own benefits from this course.

Required Equipment: (Scuba gear may be rented)

  • Mask, Snorkel, Fins
  • Exposure suit (7mm wetsuit) w/hood
  • Boots and gloves
  • BC w/low pressure inflator system
  • Serviced single hose regulator with alternate air source device (octopus)
  • Pressure gauge, depth gauge and timing device (computers are encouraged)
  • Compass
  • One tank
  • Weight System
  • Underwater slate
  • Dive Alert
  • Dive Knife
  • Surface whistle
  • Safety Tube (SMB (Safety Marker Buoy)
We will require proof of First-Aid and CPR training within the last two years.  If you do not have these certifications your Instructor can certify you in these areas.

The required Academics will include Diving Safety. We will be talking about causes and prevention of diving accidents, physical conditioning and physiological factors, stress and panic syndrome in self and others.  We will recognize distress and surface drowning syndrome.

You will participate in Diving Rescues which will include self rescue, diver assists, surface and underwater rescues, diver transport, in water rescue breathing, gear removal, shore extrication, first aid applications and oxygen usage.

We will also cover general accident management, victim care and hyperbaric chambers.  We will learn and demist rate information gathering and transmittal, accident reporting and liability.

Our skills will cover simulating surface problems which will include a muscle cramp, rapid shallow breathing, exhaustion, pre-panic and breathing difficulties.  We will also cover Scuba Diver problems and Rescues.

Students are encouraged to have their own SCUBA gear, but basic SCUBA rental package for course (wetsuit, BC, regulator, one tank and weights) are available for $70.00 per weekend.  A Drysuit Upgrade is available at an additional cost.
